We know a lot of you will have to have travel by plane, train, taxi, bus, ferry & foot to get to our wedding and it's massively appreciated if you can make it. We promise it will be a great time and also a bit of an adventure thrown in!

The wedding will be on the island of Marstrand, about 50km (30 miles) north of Gothenburg (or Göteborg as it's known by the locals!). There is a little ferry that gets you on to the island from the mainland and it only takes about 5 minutes, so don't worry about having to set sail!

Airports

If you are flying to Sweden from America, don't forget you will need a valid passport and no visa is required. The closest city to Marstrand is Gothenburg and you can fly into Gothenburg Landvetter Airport

  • Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (airport code GOT).You can not fly here direct from the United States. The most common layover airports are Stockholm, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Paris and London.
  • Arlanda Airport in Stockholm (airport code ARN). Please be advised that Stockholm is about a 6 hour drive & a 3 hour train ride to Göteborg.

Traveling from Göteborg

From the Airport  to Downtown Göteborg

  • Bus to Central Station Göteborg: Flygbussarna Landvetter, 30 minutes travel time, cost SEK 95 ($11.00).
  • Taxi: "Taxi Göteborg" (Tel: +46 31 650 000) is the best cab to go with. The trip should take about 20 minutes and cost approx. SEK 400 ($45.00)
  • Rental Car Stations: Avis, Budget, Hertz & Europcar

From Downtown Göteborg to Marstrand

  • Bus: Buses to Marstand (bus #312) leave from Göteborg's Nils Eriksson Central Station every hour and take about 1 hour to get to the ferry for the island. The cost is SEK 60 ($7.00) and it is the most affordable option.
  • Driving: approx. 50 mins. Drive and park up in the carpark on the mainland near the ferry terminal that gets you over to Marstrand. You can not bring your car onto the island, so please make sure to check that you are in parking that allows for overnight, if you are staying.

Traveling from Stockholm

If you choose to travel through Stockholm, there are a few options to get you "Cross Country".

  • Rent a car at the airport - all the major rental car stations are available here. Here are the directions for the journey.
  • Train - You can either take a cab ("Taxi Stockholm" is the best price) or take the "Arlanda Express" train to Stockholm Central Station. From here you can take the "SJ Train" into Downtown Gothenburg.
  • Boat - Not Kidding! If time is not a concern for you and you really want a unique adventure, take the boat across the country through the canals. This is a 4 day cruise stopping off every night in a different city for you to explore.

Once you're in Göteborg, follow the instructions above for getting to Marstrand.

The Marstrand Ferry

The ferry “Lasse-Maja” crosses over to the island all day long... it takes about 5 minutes and crosses over every 15 minutes, but at night it runs every half hour. The ferry costs 15 SEK ($2.00) and you can buy the ticket at the booth right by the ferry or on-board if the booth is closed. Remember, no cars are allowed.

If you have any questions about getting there, just ask us.
